The thesis that it was Paul and not Jesus who founded Christianity is not a new one, but because of the popularity of its latest proponent, novelist and biographer A. N. Wilson, it has gained much wider currency. Tom Wright's riposte shows how Wilson's arguments cover ground already well trodden by biblical historians, and they fail to take account of the overwhelming evidence.
